Ignore My Weakness, Don’t Ignore Me

Words & Music by Clementine

I was a fool to think that it’s okay
When in fact it hurts a lot
Yes, it’s really such a selfish act
And I dearly wish you’d give me another chance.

You were outlining our dreams
Making plans for our schemes
Carelessly I feed you with unholy thoughts
Even stood under a doubtful shadow

I should be a toy soldier
Hans little tragic tale
Eaten and beaten and silently delivered to his dame.

Ignore my weakness, don’t ignore me.
I’d happily die in the fire
I’d happily die in the fire
I’d happily die in the fire
As long as the wind blows you beside me

A children’s nest, a home to build
Sturdy halls filled with laughter and music
Suddenly, a profile of a heartless man
Was considered out of context

Remembering the little match girl
Another tragic tale
Outside the cold world she shivers but illuminates her faith

Ignore my weakness, don’t ignore me
I’d happily light you a fire
I’d happily light you a fire
I’d happily light you a fire
And let the Universe conspire with me.

I’m so sorry…

One of my favorites, I love how you worked Andersen’s soldier tale into the song – though it takes a morbid turn in the chorus where it goes: “I’d happily die in the fire
As long as the wind blows you beside me..” considering how it ended for the toy soldier and his dame. Makes you think is the narrator happy to die in the fire, as long as/only if his love shares his fate?
