Buy A Song, Help Flood Victims
Business World | August 9, 2012
THE INDIE pop band The Camerawalls will be donating 75% of the August and September digital sales of its newly released single — “Wanderlust” — to aid victims of this week’s floods in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The single is available until midnight on Sept. 30 for $1 on Lilystars Records’ official store site (http://lilystarsrecords.bandcamp.com/track/wanderlust). Buyers may choose to pay more than the asking price — as much as they want to give to the flood victims in exchange for a song — by directly purchasing the song via Lilystars Records.
Downloads are available in MP3 320, FLAC, MP3 VBR (V0), AAC, Ogg Vorbis or ALAC format.
The funds will be used to buy relief goods that will be delivered to calamity victims in various evacuation centers by DAKILA-Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism (www.dakila.org.ph) and Ride & Rock Relief (www.facebook.com/RideRockRelief). Local buyers can also volunteer in relief operations.
The first 100 buyers of the single will receive a postcard autographed by the band, with a thank you note for their contribution.
The members of Camerawalls were inspired to make the gesture in part becuse one of the band’s members, guitarist George Carillo, was himself a flood victim.
The single’s launch anticipates the group’s first regional tour later this month, Wanderlust: The Camerawalls South-East Asian Backpack Tour.
“Wanderlust” the single was conceived partly during The Camerawalls’ ambling five-city tour of the Visayas — their first “proper” tour called Pamagdoy: The Camerawalls Visayan Tourlast April — and during rehearsal breaks back home in Bulacan.
Produced together with Pen & Ink Manila, the downtempo tune inspires the listerner to reach for his walking shoes.
“Wanderlust” is the most recent digital single to be released by the band under Lilystars Records, following “Awit ng mga Detinidong Pulitikal” last July, and “The Sight of Love” in February 2010.
The band is currently working on a double-album. It released the album Pocket Guide to the Otherworld in 2008, and Bread and Circuses EP in 2010.
